Selected among 6 outstanding youth, Yasimine Hamilton has been named the Youth of the Year by Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal. The Youth of the Year title is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle. Now in its 72nd year, the Youth of the Year program honors our nation’s most awe-inspiring young people on their path to great futures and encourages all kids to lead, succeed and inspire. Yasimine will go on to contend for the Illinois Youth of the Year title and a $5,000 college scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
“Becoming Youth of the Year is an exciting and inspiring journey,” said Tony Morstatter, CEO, Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal, “We are proud to have Yasimine representing us on this adventure.”
Yasimine has been a member of the Club since moving to the neighborhood in 2007. The Club has connected her with many other youth serving organizations including Explorers, Girl Scouts, BCAI and 4-H. Music has been a positive outlet for Yasimine. We would often catch her in the auditorium working on her skills, admiring her approach to practice, academics, and life. Simply put, Yasimine wants to be the best at everything she does. If it means going the extra mile she will. Sometimes that meant staying late afterschool, or balancing family obligations and music. Yasimine is dedicated and committed to her success.
Yasimine is always willing to help around the Club and in the community. She is respectful to adults and her peers. We’ve seen firsthand her ability to speak her mind respectfully while standing up for what she believes in. She is an advocate for those in the community that may not be comfortable speaking out. She listens and is very intelligent in her approach regarding dealing with conflict.
